“Never-Never Wasteland” by Elizabeth Hess. Review of Way Cool @ Exit Art.

“…A handful of these artists deserve a kick up the art ladder. Juan Perdiguero’s oversize patchwork paintings of angry animals, made of small squares of paper glued onto canvas, are furious quilts...

...Michael Ashkin’s horizontal architectural models steal the show. These bizarrely ordinary landscapes depict some never-never wasteland. Ashkin has built to scale a group of miniature but vast, locations where nothing much is happening; there is a pipeline and a deserted garage that are filled with mysteries. Then, in Exit Art’s back room, there is some kind of torture contraption by Lynda Abraham, made of leather and cable, which dangles form the ceiling. Apparently it’s intended for critics. Enough said.”
